PIANO
I've been playing & studying for over 17 years, across the genres of Classical, Jazz and Contemporary Music. Now, my primary focus is within performance, composition and recording, focusing on the Piano as my central instrument. I emphasize practical components of learning such as aural skills, reading music, and sustainable practice. Although I've spent many hours of my life dedicated to the instrument, it took me years to learn to love playing and subsequently progress my ability. So I try to understand all different approaches to learning and make it work for you.
I picked up drums when my brother got too good at guitar... and never looked back! For the past 12 years I've explored Jazz, Rock, Metal, Funk, and more styles of playing. The Drum Kit is a great visceral, musical release, ideal for anyone regardless of musical background. I hugely value an understanding of the instrument's role in music, and of the power and control any drummer has in any musical situation.

MUSIC THEORY
I've always valued the theory behind music as an essential aspect of being able to truly use it. I've viewed theory through many lenses - Classical, Jazz, Contemporary, Psychology, History, etc. - and emphasize an approach that tries to combine these. Most importantly, I believe, is the way an understanding of music affects one's experience of music. In this vein, I like to include aspects such as composition, aural skills and music reading in my teaching.
